Bodhisattva Silhouette

February 2008
Sterling silver, copper

This pendant was commissioned for a customer who appreciates the tenets of Buddhism and other Eastern religions, but at the same time doesn't attempt to specifically portray herself as a practicioner of them or authority on them. I suggested the silhouette of a bodhisattva--the silhouette allows the form of the being to be represented without being overt, which I felt was the design equivalent of her philosophical interest.

The silver front piece is secured to the copper back piece with copper rivets. An extra non-structural rivet is added to the back plate as a subtle, slightly camouflaged design element to represent the bodhisattva's third eye.
