Luna is our planet's only natural satellite, and the only extra-terrestrial body to which humans have traveled. There are many theories about the Moon's origin, including the idea that it broke off of the Earth, that it was captured by the Earth's gravity, that it formed at the same time as the Earth, and that it formed later from the consolidation of debris from an Earth impact. Other than the Sun, Luna has the greatest effect on the Earth including the causation of the tides and the rate of the Earth's rotation.
In Greco-Roman mythology, Luna represents Artemis (Latin: Diana), the goddess of motherly love and Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon. Astrologically, Luna is associated with maternity and childhood, security and the home and early memories, as well as one's subconcious tendencies and emotional humors. The Moon is associated with Monday.
