Princess cut stones aren't at the height of popularity right now, but they're beautiful nonetheless. At the time that I made this ring I hadn't been setting for very long, and while I'd learned to set sharp corners in v-prongs, I don't personally find that setting terribly attractive. Thus, this ring was born as a dual excercise: on the one hand to showcase the square cut stone in a simple but elegant ring where the princess-cut CZ was the focus rather than a side stone; and on the other hand to learn the engineering feat of setting the points of the square in a standard cathedral setting without cracking them. Turned out pretty well!
