My girlfriend mentioned in passing one day that she really liked the look of wrought iron. Her birthday was coming up, so I made a mental note of it and came up with this simple but striking pendant of a blackened carbon steel wreath set off by a nugget of 18 karat gold set in the center, hung on a plain 18 karat bail. I'd never worked in carbon steel before, so twisting and forming the wreath was a learning experience. I like to (very melodramatically) say that the piece represents her as the shining center in the swirling blackness of my world... to which she just rolls her eyes.
